It's been pretty dead around here for awhile but here's some big news. I got an email from the chief engineer at WTVM today and he said they are very close to having their channel on Dish Network. The equipment is in place and he expects dish to start offering in the next 30 days. He said they expect the equipment for DirecTV to be installed in May. He didn't mention WTVM specifically so at this point I will assume it's both WTVM and WXTX. These will be the HD offerings.

Wow. I hope they're right (although I'm currently without my beloved DirecTV right now).

Good news if it comes through. I had emailed the station manager at WTVM about a month ago and he said that they had talked to DirecTV many times about getting carriage, but that there were no firm plans at that time...while he did not explicitly state that Dish carriage was on the horizon he did indicate that it was coming...

Wow I am so glad I checked this forum. I bet you don't read this news in "The Citizen of East Alabama"....aka Cable TV of East Alabama's official propaganda paper. I have lived in Phenix City my whole life and CTVEA has used their monopoly to charge high prices and provide poor service. With the addition of HD locals to the DirecTV and Dish Network, the reign of the emporer has come to an end. True competition is here. I had wondered why I have seen so many commercials lately. "Your hometown cable company". "We sponsor activities right here in our community". I knew something was up. Now it all makes sense.

It will be all channels. WRBL, WTVM, WXTX, WLTZ, WLGA, and GPB I just wanted to add some information to this: While GPB will probably be available on BOTH services, it will most likely only be available in SD. Dish Network does NOT offer PBS in HD... so expect to only get SD versions DirecTV does offer HD-LIL, but has yet to offer GPB in HD anywhere in Georgia.... so expect WJSP to be available in SD only. It's possible however that they might offer WGIQ in HD though. One other important thing to keep in mind. While all channels might be uplinked from the start, that does not mean that all will be available upon launch.~Alan

I know several people who are "former" employees of CTVEA or East Alabama today...very disgruntled. The paper has gone down tremendously in the last year - you can't even get them to run a story if you write it and give them pictures!
So, while I hate to see a local company suffer, they have to offer services to keep up. Of course, if you want QVC-HD, you can subscribe to CTVEA!
I'll put off trying to resolve a couple of reception issues that I am having with my two antennas in hopes of LIL coming this summer.

It's about time! We are probably one of the last places in the country to get satellite locals. I "moved" to an Atlanta address a few months ago so I could get the networks in HD. I guess I'll be "moving" back to Phenix City soon.

I was wondering when this would get "official". I'm glad it's finally happening. I have many friends in this area that cannot receive locals consistently with antenna, no matter how much time & money is spent on it, so this is a good thing.
So Mike, I guess it's not quiet around here any more, huh?

Not sure about Dish, as I have DirecTV, which I am pretty sure we won't see locals until the new satellite is online and their new HD lineup starts rolling out.

Hey to all. Been watching this site for a while & thought I would subscribe & help out help out. Check out this Website & you will see the Columbus locals are up on Dish Network Echostar 8 @ 77.0 degrees west (Eastern ARC). www.lyngsat.com/packages/dish77.htmlScroll nearly to the bottom of the site & you will see all Columbus stations. All are HD except PBS.

Hey to all. Been watching this site for a while & thought I would subscribe & help out help out. WELCOME! Scroll nearly to the bottom of the site & you will see all Columbus stations. All are HD except PBS. Lyngsat is a good site, and some of the information (Eastern Arc) has been verified, but Lyngsat relies on user submitted information, so there can be mistakes from time to time, and I think the Columbus stations have one. All the stations listed, are listed as being MPEG4 HD, except for WJSP, which is no surprise given that Dish Network has only a few exceptions for PBS in HD, BUT I sincerely doubt that WLGA will be available in MPEG4 HD. Another thing to keep in mind is that just because a station is uplinked, doesn't mean it will be available at the start date. For instance, Dish Network has had Albany, GA HD-LIL for a year or so, and WSWG has been uplinked in HD since the rest of the Albany locals were uplinked, but is still not currently available to Dish Network subscribers in Albany. Like I said, good information. I just wanted to point those things out so that expectations can be set accordingly until we know more. ~Alan

DishNet may already have started the launch. I'm a tech for DirecTV and one of my coworkers lost an install to Dish today. Long story short, according to the tech, a customer recently installed with a Turbo HD dish cancelled their DirecTV workorder because they started receiving Columbus locals yesterday (May 5th), and they knew DirecTV didn't offer them yet.
DirecTV can't get that D12 satellite up and running fast enough!!!
