I noticed a couple weeks ago during a thunderstorm that WACS-DT 25 (rf 8) was nearly unwatchable, constantly breaking up. Strange, as the signal is a steady 85-93% with my VU-60 antenna.
Fast forward to today, another thunderstorm, same thing. Weather has since cleared up locally, but station is still breaking up. Reading forums over at avsforum, it's clear that VHF should've never been utilized for DTV, as any electrical activity between the receiving and transmitting ends will destroy the signal.
WTVM isn't as affected since the signal is much stronger locally so it can overcome the interference.
So while VHF-Hi may have better distance coverage when using a good antenna, viewers in the fringe areas will be impacted severely with constant drop-outs whenever there's lightning between them and the tower.
