I only get the 4 local networks over the air here in Columbus. I don't understand why my reception is so inconsistent. I live in the historic district and cant see me putting a huge mast on top of my house; have been managing with settop antennas. Sometimes reception is wonderful, other times (like Monday evening) completely unwatchable. It does not seem weather-related. Do I have some kind of local interference, or does everyone experience these huge variations? I am still having to subscribe to basic cable just because the OTA seems to be so unreliable.

I've never had consistent reception indoors. Put an antenna outside and I would bet it'd clear up all your problems. If you a worried about having a big antenna outside, a chimney mounted CM 4221 is not all that noticeable

Unfortunately we have no chimneys; as is typical with these old houses they were removed. I have thought about trying an antenna in the attic, although I am not certain this would work either, and at any rate I would need someone to do the installation. Does anyone in town still do antenna installations?

You could probably even mount something like a zenith silver sensor outside somewhere and that would help you out. It wouldn't take much to mount one of those.

I mounted mine in an attic at first but I had problems getting some of the weaker stations. I put up a pole outside and mounted my antenna on it and now I am happy. I suggest trying the attic first then mount it outside if that does not work.

Thanks - I will try one of these suggestions. I am also wondering if I should try a reasonably small antenna attached to my dtv dish, which is on the edge of the roof on one side. Guess I will try a few different things; something outside would be better than the attic as it would be a pain to try and drop the wires.
