I called Phenix Cable (CTVEA) today to find out about their HD package. They said they only carry the local channels at this time and don't know when they will be getting any others. Bummer! However, they did tell me the digital box is a HD-DVR for $9.99/mo.

That's funny, for awhile they had several national HD channels listed on their website, but now as you have said they only have locals listed on their website.
My experience with Phenix Cable is that they are a bunch of idiots, I wouldn't count on the DVR being an HD DVR, the person you spoke with may have not know what they were talking about. My philosophy with Phenix Cable...don't believe it unless you see it.

If you have a TV with a built in HD tuner, you should be able to tune in the local HD channels that they offer. Thats currently what Im doing, you dont need their digital box. I know it isnt much, but at least it will eliminate you from having to mount an antenna to pick up those channels.

Anyone else have phenix cable HD? My girlfriend recently got it and it seems to have issues quite often. Don't know if it's the box or the service. Seems to drop out a lot and block up like the signal is bad. Sometimes just the sound cuts out. And not just on the locals but on espn and discHD too. Some times the locals just won't tune in at all. Thought maybe this could be a reception issue they have at CTVEA. But since there are issues with the non locals i don't know. Anyone else have these problems?

What HD stations does your girlfriend get on Phenix Cable?

She gets the locals (wrbl, wtvm, wltz, and wxtx) and TNT, ESPN, and Discovery. There was no extra charge to the package she previously had. Just a $25 box upgrade fee.

Man, don't pay Phenix Cable for a DVR. Do you have a computer? If you have a fairly new computer you can purchase Microsoft XP Media Center Edition and it will do everything and more that a DVR will do for no monthly fee. For about the price of one years DVR rental from Phenix Cable you can buy XP Media Center. It is very easy to use and if you have an XBox you can purchase an add on for it to control the Media Center through the XBox. If you have XBox 360 this function is built in. Good Stuff!
