Hello everyone out there who is stuck with Phenix Cable and no other choices out there for cable with HD. Has anyone heard when Phenix Cable will start offering local stations in high definition? I've called them several times all year and I keep getting the run around and poor customer support. They are completely clueless and not very concerned about it at all probably because they have no competition in Phenix City. Someone tell me but it seems like a monopoly with Phenix Cable considering Knology, MediaCom, or Charter Communications does not come across the river and offer their HD digital services. I called Knology and they flat out said they never have intentions of coming to Phenix City. I wonder if the city has ties with Phenix Cable to keep national scale competitors out. Ideas anyone?

I too live in P.C. and was stuck with Phenix Cable. I got fed up with them and switched to DirecTV last February. DirecTV is sooooo much better than Phenix Cable.
Last time I talked to Phenix Cable (December 2004) They said they expect to go HD in mid 2006, I don't know if those plans are still on date as I have not talked with them since. I do have a source who works for Phenix Cable that "claims" he is currently Beta Testing Phenix Cable HD at home. So who knows with those clowns.

Just checked the Phenix Cable web site. Looks like they are now offering HD programming, including locals. Not sure if the locals are scrambled. If anyone has tried it please post your comments.

I am with Scott. I switched from PC Cable to Dish and have HD programming. The quality of just the regular broadcast is 100% better than Phenix Cable. I switched because of the poor quality and poor service. I will never go back! My cable would go down for days on end. Up time was about 90% with poor quality. Now I have up time of 99.9% with excellent quality, more programs and less cost!
I have HD receiver from Dish that receives local HD broadcast and local digital and analog signals.
Switch, you will love it!

Chill01, thanks for that update. I will add this information to the main site. I didn't see a detailed lineup on their site so if I missed it or somebody finds one, let me know and I'll add it.

As far as I am concerned, Phenix Cable is a day late and a dollar short. They're going to have to do a lot more than that to get me back.

I have seen in a couple of threads it's possible to pick up HD local stations without Phenix Cable's Digital Box? Can you just tune to channels 500-503 without cable box on tv? Haven't tried it yet being I have Phenix Cable's DVR box.... Costing me a pretty almost $20 more a month for digital package and box. So any tips would be appreciated! Thanks everyone!

Yes, it is possible to pick up the local HD channels on Phenix Cable without their digital box. You will need an HD tuner that is QAM capable. I am currently using an LG LST 3100A set top box to tune in the HD channels, It also tunes in several of the digital audio channels. I subscribe to their extended basic package (analog only). ;D

Please explain. I currently have Phenix Cable going directly into the tv, Dishnetwork 811 and an internal digital tuner in my HDTV which I currently don't use. What connections are necessary to get Phenix Cable's HD locals?

I would cut the cable TV loose, put up an antenna and use the HD tuner that came with the TV.
I have a Dish HD receiver with an HD antenna and I enjoy local digital and local HD along with Dish programs. ;D
Sounds like you already have everything you need except a local HD antenna.

I currently have Phenix Cable for the other tv's in my house and for the cable modem internet. They tell me I can't have the cable modem without the cable tv service. I get the HD locals with an antenna, but my FOX reception is very shaky. With Dish coming out with their mpeg4 receivers, eventually I'll have to buy one or lease and pay about $50 more per month for their minumum package. I'm just looking at alternatives to cut my cable/satellite bill. Phenix Cable getting more HD channels would be just perfect.

If Bellsouth is your local phone company; go to www.fastaccess.com and see if you qualify for DSL, that's what I did when i gave Phenix Cable the 'ol "heave ho". If you can get DSL, then the cable internet issue will become a non issue. I personally cannot ever imagine returning to Phenix Cable, they are nothing but a bunch of backwoods idiots with antiquated equipment running a monopoly on cable tv in Phenix City.

I will pile on the Phenix Cable sucks bandwagon. I moved into my house in November 2003 and by December 2003 I had DirecTV installed. I had my house built so if I knew how bad Phenix Cable sucked I wouldn't have had them waste their time and mine running the lines.
I had to have DirecTV installed at some point to continue getting the NFL SundayTicket which is a necessity in my house. I was paying for locals through Phenix Cable until recently for some reason. I did also switch from Phenix Cable internet to Bellsouth DSL as soon as I got DirecTV. Phenix Cable would have to pay me to return. I would still have to think about it!

I checked with Bellsouth. They don't offer DSL Extreme 6.0 in my area yet, but the next step down. Since you said you switched from Phenix Cable modem to DSL, what type do you have and how does it compare to cable modem?

I opted for the cheapest DSL option Bellsouth provides, which is DSL Lite. I get 256kbps down, it is just a little slower than my Phenix Cable was. With Phenix Cable I was paying for 1mbps down, but the actual speed I got when tested was usually around 300kbps down. What a joke.
So, for a lot less money I get similar speeds. Of course I could pay more and get faster DSL, but I don't need it. Overall, I am much more satisfied with Bellsouth DSL, Phenix Cable went down a lot where I live. Bellsouth is far superior when it comes to uptime.
I have a friend that has DSL extreme, and he gets very fast download speeds.
I agree with jdnance22 100% when he said; "Phenix Cable would have to pay me to return. I would still have to think about it! "
