From an article in the Ledger today, they are starting again on the tower down in Cusseta. It says it should be completed in October. Says they still don't really know why the other one fell.

According to WLGA's website the tower rebuild is complete. It also appears that the transmitter has been installed. They have a slideshow with pictures but no information about when they might begin transmitting.
Hopefully it won't be too much longer now.

A buddy of mine drives by there everyday on his way to work and said it looked like they were done. Before the collapse, the plan was to move the analog transmitter out there first and keep the digital in opelika for awhile. So that is what i'm expecting again. I will see if i can get any info about that.

Considering that the rules for stations in the bottom 110 DMAs require that they go full-power by July 1, 2006 (although they can request an extension if they need one), at least it won't be too long before they would have to move it! ~Alan

The real question here should be, will WLGA upgrade their picture and sound quality when they switch to the new tower? Their analog feed is mediocre at best, with the sound quality being especially poor. The digital feed is no better.
I'm wondering if their broadcast quality issues originate at the studio facilities, or at the transmitter.

I am pretty sure they have been operating at 50% power for a couple years now, because they had a lightning strike on their current tower. That is probably the cause of the poor picture quality.
So, one would think, a new tower closer to Columbus should fix that problem.

I finally got around to contacting WLGA to find out what's going on with the new tower. For now it's only going to have the analog transmitter, digital will remain in opelika. The analog broadcast is supposed to start from the new tower by Nov 5th. They said they hope to have it up slightly before then probably last week of Oct.
There is currently no set date for when the digital transmitter will be moved out there. Sometime next year though. I was also told that would probably be the time they go HD.

Better than nothing, because now I can't even get a clear analog signal. At least we can start watching in analog soon.
