I can't really comment on any of the other places in town, but i don't think they know much at circuit city. When i bought my first HD receiver there, the guy asked me something like "why would you want one of these?"

Most retailers here don't know as much as they should at all, mainly because they don't work off commission anymore. Both at CC and BB, I have had friendly sales people, but I normally can stump them pretty quick. The key is to do your homework on the internet first then go shopping with an idea already of what you're looking for. Merrit TV has a pretty good sales staff and decent stuff, just not alot of it. Oh, and I wouldn't try financing through them- not worth the hastle. Can't speak for HHGregg- been once and wasn't impressed, but heard prices are good. Hope this helps.

In short, None that I have come in contact with. I bought mine at Best Buy. Like I said in another post I bought mine when the projection tv's were about the only thing affordable in HD. I told this guy I wanted the Mitsubishi with the built in tuner. He began to ask me why I wanted the tuner built in. I immediatly started holding a short HDTV how to with this guy and told him that a couple of stations in Columbus were broadcasting in HD and I wanted to get in on the action. He had no idea what broadcast television was or that you could get HDTV without cable or satellite dish. At least he was interested enough to ask questions.

yea pretty much none of the retailers i encountered know much about hdtv. the guys at merrit know a lot about the audio/speaker surrond aspect of home theater however you still have to go on-line to get most of your info. merrit has the most high end equipment but like a fellow poster said not much of it. circuit city has the most bargains but not a lot of knowledgeble staff. best buy forget it although they can get you a free subscription to sports illustrated that you will unknowingly pay for anyway after the free 8 issues
