I called a third time and got a better answer. This time they added the locals ($6/mo) and then issued a credit for the 5 months ($30 total) to cover the difference so my promo w/ free premier for 5 months didn't get changed. So as long as the billing system was filled in correctly it should be smooth sailing until my 5 month promo ends in February. Just be sure to remember to check in 5 months to make sure your charges go back down to $5. ~Alan

Wow, 6.5 years working for DirecTV and that's the FIRST step I should've taken. Sometimes I get so lazy when I'm off the clock that I make things harder than they need to be.
Of course, it worked! Thanks a bunch.

When the install guy comes do I get to keep the old SD boxes? I was told or read somewhere we buy the equipment so I want to keep the old boxes and not give free stuff back to DirecTV. Am I correct? If have only been a DirecTV customer since August, the odds are 99.9% that you have LEASED boxes, and DirecTV will take them back. For a simple receiver install, it sometimes sucks that installers are neccessary for those of who know what we're doing, but I know quite a few people who allow me to be aware of it being a good policy. Hopefully you'll have better luck than I did... www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=182538~Alan Wow you had it rough! Well that is a rip off for me to pay all that money for a dvr and if it breaks it is mine to pay and replace but if I want to upgrade then it is their equipment and they get it back....talk about have your cake and eat it too! They better not screw with my current setup since I finally got the DECA system set the way I want it and bought all the DECA equipment from ebay and I own that.I connected the system to internet and added the extra DECAs to get hard line internet in my house and DirecTV can screw when they say it won't work cause it works great.

Essentially, you pay an upfront fee to get a cheaper fee per month. If one breaks, they'll usually work something out. They better not screw with my current setup since I finally got the DECA system set the way I want it and bought all the DECA equipment from ebay and I own that.I connected the system to internet and added the extra DECAs to get hard line internet in my house and DirecTV can screw when they say it won't work cause it works great. Assuming you have everything set up correctly, it SHOULDN'T be a problem, but as you read from my experience linked above, SHOULDN'T is the operative word. ~Alan

Well it was good I was home for the 3 HD boxes. First the guys (2) came (real DirecTv not cont.) and wanted to install a new dish since it was on the work order. I told him it was already a SWM 8 so he put his ladder away. When they brought the boxes they were H23 not H24 so the discount price of $49 now doesn't seem like a deal. Then I wanted MRV and the guy first said he only had one DECA but the other guy found three so he installed them. So it works now but the guy was slow and didn't know how to setup the H23 for MRV and I had to show him how to do it.

I got one of my two upgrade boxes today, a plain vanilla HR20-100-which was all I needed...but, no cable included at all to connect to the TV. While HDMI cables are relatively inexpensive, the original boxes came with a cable, so why not these? A call to customer service gets "sometimes they come with one and sometimes they don't" Odd way to do business. No information on the missing box except that it "might" be due to a hardware shortage.
On an unrelated note - is anyone else seeing audio sync issues on WTVM-9? It was pretty bad this morning...

On an unrelated note - is anyone else seeing audio sync issues on WTVM-9? It was pretty bad this morning... I see the same issue on channel 9 OTA all too often. I doubt it was DirecTV at fault. They are simply rebroadcasting what comes over the airwaves. Whatever issue I can see/hear watching off my OTA antenna, the same issue will be on DirecTV. Take for instance WRBL's local programming, which looks HORRIBLE most of the time, like that of a low-bandwidth internet video stream. Folks who don't know any better will automatically blame DirecTV, while it's not their fault. The best picture and sound they can provide is totally dependent on the source material.

Fox 54 is also sub standard HD compared to national Fox feed. Fox 54 has vikings and pats and on sunday ticket 712 the HD is notably better for same game on fox national. Also not a columbus issue but Fox is only broadcasting both nfl and mlb in 720 whereas cbs is broadcasting in 1080.

I had seen the sync issue before with OTA, but it was particularly bad the other day...seems to come and go, or maybe by program. And yes, WRBL has probably the worst picture of all, especially on college football. Oh well, at least we have our locals now, even if they are sub-par

Just an FYI, since the launch our work load has increased to levels never imagined. The only real issue we're having is getting GPB 28 to come on at the same time as the others. It seems to come on 24-48 hours after programming is activated, much like what happened to me on 10/27 when locals launched.
I do find it funny, though, how advertising from local CATV providers has increased since locals have been available from both satellite companies. I'm seeing CTVEA spots several times a day now, it's too funny. I can only imagine how DISH and Direct are affecting their customer numbers.
