Tried to edit above statement but couldn't. I meant to say "sense" instead of since. Sorry for the error.

I've got three HD DVRs, so I'm as ready as I'm ever going to be get the locals over satellite. But DirecTV doesn't have enough HD equipment to go around for the new installations and thousands upon thousands of upgrades that'll be created once locals are finally launched.
DirecTV won't launch locals for existing customers and deny new customers their installations because they don't have the equipment to furnish. Remember, once locals are launched EVERY SINGLE receiver we install from that day forward will be HD. Right now we're still installing mostly standard equipment and only HD receivers when the customer specifically orders it. Most new installations and upgrades would have to be rescheduled due to the lack of necessary equipment if locals were to launch now.
I've worked for DirecTV for over 6 years, and the first five years were nothing but empty promises from corporate that they're "working on it". Well, they've promised us locals for the first time ever, written in stone. The locals ARE coming, but DirecTV has to think of their new potential customers and being able to service them before they can offer the rest of us locals.

Too funny. The more people who sign up because locals are finally going to be available, the longer the wait becomes......

It's nice that Direct TV is concerned about new customers. However, it's time they start trying to satisfy existing customers. I've been a loyal customer of Direct TV since 1997. Took their premium package including the NFL package and paid my bills on time. If they continue ignoring their current customers, they will begin losing them. I am getting to that point. One more delay on locals and I'm gone.

Ditto - I can understand concessions to get new customers, but the perks are skewed too far over to new sign-ups... They should pay a little more attention to those of us who are footing the majority of the bills - longtime customers whose intro pricing expired long ago.

Has Direct tv began testing uplinks for local channels yet? It seems prior to actually launching local channels some testing must be done.

Well, here we are in the first Wednesday and no news on local channels. Anyone one to bet we get locals in October. I suspect that around Oct. 20 that Direct TV will announce a delay until November. Any takers?

Nothing new. Uplinking info from DirecTV is unheard of as far as I know. The local channels have probably been uplinked and been in testing for a while now, but we will never know. All we can do is watch the website on a daily basis!

I really wish they'd get these local HD channels before the NLCS and World Series are on Fox. Fox 54 is the only channel I can't pull in reliably OTA. I am not excited to watch those events on the computer.

Anyone hearing anything? We are at mid-month with no announcements or locals, nor testing from what I can tell at DBSTalk...

If DirecTV made an announcement PRIOR to a launch, it would be one we wouldn't want to hear. They will not release a firm date, ever. The locals will just be turned on when they get turned on. Albany was turned on August 4th with no prior knowledge, no known testing, nothing, just that they were slated for August.
Our office was told October 27th as a tentative date. Keep your fingers crossed it's no later than that.

I have a question that might be very simple (only had dtv since June). How will we know they are turned on so we can add them to our account? Right now i'm getting PBS/NBC/CBS/CW DNS.

I got Direct TV installed the first week of August. I've had plenty of problems with them since that date. I stayed home from work on my install date, and to my surprise no one showed. They called me an hour after the scheduled time to tell me that no one would be coming that day due to product not coming in. I was furious and called to cancel. They tried everything to keep me. They offered me a free month, plus install two days later.
I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and gave them another chance. Installer was three hours late on the next install day. After everything was done, one of my purchases was defective. So he said he would bring one back on Monday. Well four days later and nothing. After calling him, I then got attitude for asking and he said he would be there tomorrow. As he hung up I hear "f#$*in idiot". Real classy I know.....
Well here are when my local problems came into play. I was told by the lady I signed up with in July that locals would be in Sept. I was then told by my installer the first week of Sept. I was then told by a csr that Sept 10th would be the day. Then.......October all of a sudden. When I called they lied and said Oct has always been the month. I snapped again. I told them that they were making me become that guy who yells at customer service reps for no reason.
I asked why they couldn't give me the East coast feeds until locals arrive, and they told me it would take 6 weeks for a waiver to pass, by then locals would be here. I'm a huge Giants fan in the Columbus/PC area and the NLCS starts on Saturday night. If my locals aren't here by Saturday I'm going to be canceling with Direct TV. I should have stuck with my gut and stayed with cable.
Does anyone know anyway to get the processed pushed forward on east coast locals. There has to be a way. Panomac how do you have the PBS/NBC/CBS/CW right now.

You can "move" and give them a service address that can get locals.
