Dish Network will be launching local channels for Columbus on June 3rd, 2010. The local channels will use Dish Network's Eastern Arc service. This service utilizes a satellite at the 77°w location, and uses MPEG4 encoding for all channels. If Dish Network offers an HD version of a channel, the SD version is no longer available via satellite. If you are an older customer, a new dish and possibly receivers, depending upon your setup will be needed for this service. New customers (installed AFTER April 21st) should already be setup for Eastern Arc services. Currently available to subscribers on 77°w, transponder 28 are: WRBL (HD), WTVM (HD), WJSP (HD), WLTZ (HD), WXTX (HD) 1920x1080i channels will be downrezzed to 1440x1080i. Channels should be made available to subscribers in the following Alabama counties: Barbour, Chambers, Lee, and Russell. Channels should be made available to subscribers in the following Georgia counties: Chattahoochee, Clay, Harris, Marion, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor, and Webster.

Unfortunately you're probably going to have to remove WLGA off the list entirely. Things aren't going so well over there. I'm sure more news will surface soon, but I hope its loyal employees will land on their feet.

Just made changes...
WLGA has been changed to SD and WJSP has been changed to HD.... which is weird considering Dish rarely offers PBS in HD...

After you said this, I realized that even though WLGA was uplinked in testing with the rest of them, they never became available to subscribers. My mistake guys... I apologize.

I have a friend who is getting an install this week.
WLTZ-DT2 is not available, but if any of you are already setup with locals, can you tell me whether or not you are getting a CW affiliate on channel #251?

All Columbus locals working with no problems. I can confirm there is NO CW. When I turn to 251 it does nothing.

Same....my family upgraded to the new Dish Network TurboHD antenna and DVR 722K. We're receiving Columbus local HD channels on 3, 9, 28, 38 and 54 and 5290, 5291, 5292, 5293 and 5294. WLGA 66 is currently off the air. It took Columbus long enough to join the Satellite community!!!!
My mother-in-law has the HDTV receiver only; no DVR and it has the OTA module to add HD locals via antenna and sub channels are available as well as program information. Our receiver the 722K the OTA module is an add-on and can be purchased separately otherwise like many our local sub channels are not available.
Currently Dish Network has brought in technicians from all over both Alabama and Georgia to upgrade it's subscriber base to the Columbus DMA channels in our area and I'm told they will be here at least another month taken full advantage of DirecTV not being able to launch until August/September.
Do we know whether those of us in Alabama observing the Eastern Time Zone can have our receivers calibrated to reflect this? In the past they allowed me to have a "virtual" physical address in Columbus despite living in Opelika.
Finally, is there a way to have for example Montgomery's WSFA, Channel 12 on satellite despite being in the Columbus DMA; I simply think they do a better job with Alabama news for our area.

Finally, is there a way to have for example Montgomery's WSFA, Channel 12 on satellite despite being in the Columbus DMA; I simply think they do a better job with Alabama news for our area. You live in Lee County (AL), correct?! If so, Dish Network is LEGALLY able to offer WFSA to you, as WFSA is "Significantly Viewed" in Lee County. HOWEVER, I'm doubtful you will see it anytime soon. DirecTV (and Dish Network to a lesser extent) has spoken to the FCC regarding their problems in offering "Significantly Viewed" channels. The short and sweet of it is that should Dish Network offer WFSA to subscribers in Lee County, WLTZ would miss out on viewers... which would then leave WLTZ mad at Dish Network, and that wouldn't be good. DirecTV (and DN) have stated that after the law passed years ago giving them the option to offer "SV", they they have had stations DEMAND that the satcos don't bring in an SV station affiliated with the same network as they are. There is a better shot of you getting WFSA with the new law (recently passed), but since it's still an OPTIONAL ability, the satcos may decide to please the local stations instead... ~Alan
