Irishsteelers: I just went here: www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageIFnorail.jsp?assetId=P4880022#h:573.580 and requested a waiver. ABC/Fox got denied. If you get angry enough w/ them on the phone they may give you a free AM21 OTA hookup for your box, ask them about that option. That is how I get WTVM and sometimes WXTX Fox 54 (it usually works at night). Of course I also had to fork out $9 for an OTA antenna. I got Direct TV installed the first week of August. I've had plenty of problems with them since that date. I stayed home from work on my install date, and to my surprise no one showed. They called me an hour after the scheduled time to tell me that no one would be coming that day due to product not coming in. I was furious and called to cancel. They tried everything to keep me. They offered me a free month, plus install two days later. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and gave them another chance. Installer was three hours late on the next install day. After everything was done, one of my purchases was defective. So he said he would bring one back on Monday. Well four days later and nothing. After calling him, I then got attitude for asking and he said he would be there tomorrow. As he hung up I hear "f#$*in idiot". Real classy I know..... Well here are when my local problems came into play. I was told by the lady I signed up with in July that locals would be in Sept. I was then told by my installer the first week of Sept. I was then told by a csr that Sept 10th would be the day. Then.......October all of a sudden. When I called they lied and said Oct has always been the month. I snapped again. I told them that they were making me become that guy who yells at customer service reps for no reason. I asked why they couldn't give me the East coast feeds until locals arrive, and they told me it would take 6 weeks for a waiver to pass, by then locals would be here. I'm a huge Giants fan in the Columbus/PC area and the NLCS starts on Saturday night. If my locals aren't here by Saturday I'm going to be canceling with Direct TV. I should have stuck with my gut and stayed with cable. Does anyone know anyway to get the processed pushed forward on east coast locals. There has to be a way. Panomac how do you have the PBS/NBC/CBS/CW right now.

So exactly how do I do that? Please admin teach me of your ways lol I don't have any experience with directv but I know two people that called dish network, changed their service address and were able to get locals. One gave the address of a soccer field in Atlanta to get the Atlanta locals. The other guy used a macon address and it was actually done by a tech that came out for another problem. From what they tell me the change is immediate once they update your address. I assume you can do the thing with directv. Once they get locals up you can just change back to your real address

I went and submitted the request. Is says pending. So on average how long for an answer? Does each channel cost $2.50 for DNS instead of the the flat $5 for normal locals? What if only one or two of the four I requested are approved? Will they just turn on the approved one or will they ask if I still want to go ahead with it? What happens when real locals are turned on? Does DNS get turned off automatically? I am worried by the time the waiver go through the real locals will be on and screw my account up. I was thinking about "moving" to locals somewhere else but I dont want to use a total false address and the only addresses I have access to which are not current DirecTV subscribers would be in upstate NY. The problem there would be the loss of SPSO in the regional sport network. So this is another consideration if anyone is thinking of "moving".

It is on a one-by-one basis. I got approved for the CW, denied for ABC and FOX and pending for CBS and NBC...for several weeks now. Who knows, maybe we'll get locals in October after all and I can cancel whichever DNS I manage to get approved for.

Let's hope for real locals soon.

Yes each one costs $2.50. CBS/CW/PBS responded ASAP. NBC took several weeks. ABC/Fox denied within 30 days. I'm not sure what happens once locals go active, waiting to find out. Reading on DBSTalk about the continuing equipment shortages of DirecTV, I am becoming pessimistic that we will actually see locals this month - especially if that was the reason for delaying to start with... I still have my fingers crossed, though.

Once they get locals up you can just change back to your real address I did exactly this with DirecTV. About a week after my dish was installed here, I called and said that my job required me to temporarily move to Atlanta. I gave them a residential address, added a bogus apartment number, and said that my roommate up there had already installed his dish. I just needed to change the address to get service there. Worked like a champ, and I had Atlanta locals (including CW and MNTV in HD). I then used the AM21 to get the Columbus stations OTA.

It looks like we are actually moving closer! Per reports on DBSTalk, 7 channels are in TEST for the Columbus, GA market!!! Hopefully, if all goes well, we will actually get to watch them next Wednesday, the 27th...

Wow, this is great news. Glad to see the uplink report. It's good to see the CW is one of them.

Though the uplinked data is there, I think we can all rule out WLGA coming on Wednesday... ~Alan

Thanks Alan - I forgot to comment on the WLGA oddity...I thought they were out of business or at least not broadcasting right now?

Good news. Hope everything continues to work out. Do we just call up Directv once they are active and change to the "with locals" package or does it convert automatically?

Good news. Hope everything continues to work out. Do we just call up Directv once they are active and change to the "with locals" package or does it convert automatically? If you have the right equipment, they will show up in the guide (sometime around 6:00 A.M. Eastern or earlier), but they won't be activated, so you'll have to call to activate them for your account. If you have a current package, they will switch you over to the corresponding package with locals included for an additional $3.00 a month. If you have an older Grandfathered package, locals will be added ala carte for $6.00 a month extra. You might be able to change via the website as well, but I'd probably just call. When my locals launched in August, I had to call about upgrading a couple of receivers anyway, so I didn't try the website. ~Alan
