I finally picked up a blu-ray player last week. Got a good deal on a ps3 on ebay. So far i'm only watched Semi-Pro which was decent looking but I also downloaded the Wall-E HD trailer from the playstation store. That is crazy good looking. I can't wait for that one to come out.

So far i'm only watched Semi-Pro which was decent looking but I also downloaded the Wall-E HD trailer from the playstation store. That is crazy good looking. I can't wait for that one to come out. There's a lot of debate on what makes a good Blu-ray picture. Some people expect everything to look like Discovery HD, National Geographic Channel, or sporting events, and most films just don't look like that. "Semi-Pro" (I haven't seen it myself) is not what you would call "demo material", but it looks better than the DVD and does a good job of reproducing the quality of the print. Some films however look far superior to the DVD versions... for instance, I hear "Iron Man" and the new "Indiana Jones" film look and sound FAR superior to the DVD counterparts... and truly looks impressive. Not to mention that some shows, "Lost" and "Prison Break" for example look superior to their OTA broadcasts... As for "Wall-E", I have my copy pre-ordered from Amazon already, and I agree that it looks incredible (as does most animation on Blu-ray). ~Alan

Right, I don't expect everything on blu-ray to be amazing. I didn't expect a lot out of Semi-Pro. It did look good, and i'm sure better than the dvd, but you're right, it's not something to wow anyone with. I'm sure with a lot of movies the difference between blu-ray and DVD will be things the average person wouldn't even care about. I saw what I think was Batman Begins playing on a TV at best buy last week and that was a very good looking live action movie. Actually one of the few times i've every been impressed with a picture in the store. But i guess it's hard for them to mess up blu-ray. With some of the HD i've seen in stores before i'm not surprised people say "i don't see the difference" if that's what they are basing it on.
